The NLSH05-DC is a compact, standalone mechanical shutter engineered for ultra-low vibration operation, making it ideal for use on optical tables, precision instruments, and systems that require a low-vibration environment. It is particularly well suited for OEM applications, offering reliable performance and efficient integration for high-volume systems. With its built-in USB controller, the shutter connects directly to a PC without the need for external control hardware.

The shutter features a durable, easy-to-clean PVD-coated housing, making it suitable for cleanroom-compatible handling in accordance with the user’s facility procedures.

The uncoated stainless-steel blade is driven by a motor capable of continuous 360-degree rotation. This rotational design enables smooth and precise operation while significantly reducing the shock and vibration typically associated with conventional mechanical shutters.

Key Features

› Silent operation: with no clicking or knocking sounds – smooth, continuous motion

Software & Integration Options

LabVIEW Integration:
Ready-to-use LabVIEW VIs and example projects are provided, enabling rapid integration into existing test, measurement, and automation systems.

Windows Application:
A ready-to-use Windows executable (EXE) is available for direct shutter control without the need for LabVIEW development software. The application provides access to the main shutter control and configuration functions and communicates with the shutter through USB.

The application requires the appropriate LabVIEW Runtime Engine, which is available free of charge from National Instruments.

Custom Integration:
For users developing custom software, including Python applications, the USB communication protocol and command set are provided for direct shutter integration.

The protocol supports essential functions including:

  • Open/Close control
  • Real-time shutter position monitoring
  • Motion and device configuration
  • Slave address configuration
  • Communication and error-status monitoring

A downloadable Python example project is also available, demonstrating USB communication and Open/Close packet transmission.

For applications requiring additional commands or advanced functionality beyond the standard protocol, please contact us to discuss extended protocol support.

Optional RS485 Integration
For multi-shutter applications, the NLSH05-DC can be supplied with an optional RS485 communication board in place of the standard USB communication board.

This configuration allows multiple shutters to share an RS485 bus and be controlled individually using assigned slave addresses.
